•    Analyse and evaluate either a recent period of change or a period of international expansion.
•    The analysis of strategic change should cover the context, content and process of change and evaluate the results
•    The analysis of a period internationalisation should cover the motivation to internationalise, the reasons for selecting the target country/region, the selected internationalisation strategy and the results.
•    Comment on the leadership of the organisation during this period and the organisational issues which the leader needed to address.

Tips from tutor: The answers MUST focus on strategic change. There is a new case study to focus on here (Faslane). I strongly suggest you refer to Chapter 14 of the 10th edition of Johnson et.al. (the 9th is also fine, and is available on your online reading list) so that you are clear what I am looking for (types of change, e.g. evolution, revolution – levers of change, e.g. creating sense of urgency, changing the paradigm). Focus on describing the theory (don’t use too many words) and then applying to the case study – which levers are being used here? Again, you should be critical – which levers are used well/badly? Which ones aren’t being used, that could be used?

Task:

Read the case study on managing change at Faslane on page 495 in Johnson Scholes and Whittington (2009) 9th edition (available on Blackboard) and answer the following questions

1.    Critically evaluate the types of change being pursued atFaslane
2.    Critically evaluate the levers of change being used. Outline any others that may have been applied
3.    Assess the effectiveness of the change programme

This assignment addresses the learning outcomes for the module and will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the achievement of this outcome in relation to the set question. This learning outcome is:
